Excellence in Serving South Carolina Home Educators Since 1996
Palmetto Homeschool Association Mission Statement
The mission of Palmetto Homeschool Association is to provide accountability (as set forth in SC Statute 59-65-47) and guidance for member families in South Carolina, empowering them to homeschool their children according to their own educational philosophies and unencumbered by undue requirements and restrictions.
In order to fulfill this mission, Palmetto Homeschool Association will:
- Allow parent-teachers to choose their own methods and materials, including, but not limited to, traditional texts, unit
studies (pre-packaged or created by the parent-teacher), library resources, or experiential studies.
- Require that member homeschools meet Palmetto Homeschool Association requirements outlined in SC Statute 59-65-47.
- Require the parent-teacher to maintain his/her own records. Palmetto Homeschool Association may request additional
information and /or records as necessary to confirm association compliance or scholarship eligibility.
- Act as liaison between member homeschool families and local and state governmental authorities. Allow renewing members
to school year-round, beginning and ending their homeschool year at any point during the year as long as they document a
total of 180 days for their school year.
- Maintain confidentiality of member homeschools, providing to state and local authorities only the information required
by SC Statute 59-65-47 and information necessary for members to compete for state scholarships.
- Require that member homeschools maintain integrity in all their homeschool interactions and business.
